These People Lining Up To Buy The iPhone 6 Aren’t Even Apple Fans (APPL)

Source: www.businessinsider.com – Monday, September 08, 2014
Although the iPhone 6 isn't expected to be released to the public for another two weeks, several people have already started lining up outside Apple's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York City. You'd normally expect to see this type of behavior from diehard iPhone fans, but cousins Joseph Cruz, 21, and Brian Ceball, 20, are actually being compensated by online electronics retailer BuyBackWorld to gain publicity , Quartz reports. BuyBackWorld is picking up the duo's food tab for three weeks and also giving each of the them an iPhone 6, according to Quartz. Although the pair are iPhone users — this is their fifth year lining up for the new smartphone — it seems that competition is more of factor in this case. "We're trying to beat friends from last year," the cousins told Newsweek: "They waited 17 days, and we did 15." Cruz and Ceballo are trying to break the record this year by staying for 20 days. Cruz and Ceball aren't alone in their mission. Moon Ray, a 25-year-old actress and model from Mississippi, and her husband Jason paid the cousins $ 2,500 to be first in line , USA Today's Eli Blumenthal reports. The Rays are being sponsored by an app called VideoMedicine that allows users to Skype with their doctors. It's supposed to launch in time with the iPhone 6. Moon told Newsweek that she's not currently an iPhone owner and doesn't even plan to keep her iPhone 6. Watch an interview with Moon and the cousins below, courtesy of

Apple releases information about iOS in response to claims of a ‘backdoor’ for data collection

Apple's Latest iPhone Models Go On Sale Across U.S.
Apple has published new information about the diagnostic capabilities of iOS, in what appears to be a response to suggestions that it includes a ‘backdoor’ that could enable governments and other third-parties to access user data. The controversy arose after security consultant Jonathan Zdziarski documented a vulnerability that could leave usage data on iOS device exposed. Rebutting subsequent reports that linked the vulnerability with government data collection, Apple told iMore that it has “has never worked with any government agency from any country to create a backdoor in any of our products or services.” In addition to detailing the capabilities of three diagnostic features in its new document, the…

Apple TV set-top box now costs €99 in Europe and £79 in the UK

Apple Launches Upgraded iPod
Apple has dropped the price of its Apple TV set-top box to €99 in Europe and £79 in the UK, putting pressure on rivals Roku, Google and possibly Amazon. The €10/£20 discount isn’t huge by any means, but it’s a sizeable chunk when you consider the Apple TV cost €109/£99 before. In the UK, it puts the device on a level playing field with the Roku 3 and also narrows the gap with Google’s Chromecast streaming dongle. Amazon is yet to launch the Fire TV in the UK, so it’s possible this is also a pre-emptive measure against the new entrant. Rumours continue…

Apple and Google settle Motorola patent disagreement and agree to cooperate on patent reform

SPAIN-TECHNOLOGY-MOBILE-WORLD-CONGRESS
Apple and Google have reached a settlement for the extended patent lawsuits between Apple and Motorola Mobility, as first reported by Reuters. According to a statement from the two companies, the agreement doesn’t include a cross-license, but the firms will “work together in some areas of patent reform.” The legal battle between Apple and Motorola dates back to 2010, prior to Google’s acquisition of Motorola, which began in 2011. In January, Google announced plans to sell Motorola to Lenovo, though it will keep the “vast majority” of the handset maker’s patents. After kicking up a storm against the Android platform’s biggest manufacturers, Apple…

Did Dr. Dre just confirm that Apple is buying Beats for $3.2 billion?

Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 10.12.32
Apple is rumored to be acquiring Beats Electronics in a landmark deal worth $ 3.2 billion. While the purchase is yet to be confirmed formally by either company, a Facebook video uploaded by actor Tyrese Gibson suggests an announcement is imminent. In a clip spanning just 83 seconds, the Hollywood actor – most well-known for his roles in The Fast and the Furious and Transformers movie franchises – congratulates hip-hop icon Dr. Dre on the acquisition. It’s fair to assume that a hefty amount of alcohol was being consumed at the music studio, as Gibson cracks jokes about the Forbes list…
