"As Russia spins a false narrative to justify its illegal actions in Ukraine, the world has not seen such startling Russian fiction since Dostoyevsky wrote, 'The formula two plus two equals five is not without its attractions,'" the State Department said in a statement released along with the fact sheet. In the listicle-esque fact sheet, the State Department went after 10 of Putin's claims in the wake of Russian troops moving into the Ukrainian region of Crimea . Included in the fact sheet was pushback against Putin's claims about a humanitarian crisis involving Russian citizens in Crimea and whether Russian military action would comply with international law. The fact sheet also denounces Putin's assertions about the legitimacy of the new Ukrainian government and the ouster of former President Viktor Yanukovych. The release of the fact sheet came just hours after U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said diplomats would continue to search for a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
